CCD REGISTRATION FOR 2012 – 2013 IS IN PROGRESS

Re-Registration for CCD 2012 – 2013 school year is currently underway. Registration forms can be found here online or by clicking on the drop-down menu Religious Education. Forms can also be obtained in the vestibules of both the Main Church and High School Chapel or can also be picked up at the CCD office and Rectory office.

ALL REGISTRATION FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED AND RETURNED NO LATER THAN June 30, 2012.

Students entering the program for the first time are required to have a copy of their baptismal certificate accompany the registration form. No new registration can be accepted without a baptismal certificate.

Registration forms may be returned to the Religious Education office or to the rectory office. For all questions and for further information please call the Religious Education Office at 718-324-0865.

Youth Group

ST. BARNABAS YOUTH GROUP meets every Sunday from 6 to 8pm in the Considine Center (room 3-6).

St. Barnabas Men’s Group

What does it mean for men to relate to Jesus Christ? That’s what this group is about. Character, manliness, leadership, solid friendship, faith, virtue, fatherhood, real love for women. Join us as we figure out how to be men of God in the world today. The St. Barnabas Men’s Group meets Saturday mornings 9:00–10:00am, 3rd floor of the Considine Center. For all men in their 20s–40s. Choir News

The St. Barnabas Adult Choir rehearses every Thursday, from 7-9pm on the 2nd floor of the Considine Center. The Choir will resume singing at the 11:30am Choral Mass on Sunday’s beginning in October. The choir is currently welcoming women and especially men who wish to participate in the Choral liturgies.

Cantor - If you have previous experience as a cantor, the ability to read music, and a good ear and vocal technique, please consider becoming involved in the music ministry at St. Barnabas by becoming a volunteer cantor at weekend Masses. Volunteer weekend cantors lead the congregation in song during the liturgies. Anyone interested in participating at one of the weekend Masses as leader of song is invited to schedule a short audition during the month of September.

The St. Barnabas Youth Choir – has resumed rehearsing on Thursdays from 2:30-4:00pm in the Considine Center (Room 2-4). Any children interested in singing, and in 3rd grade or older, are encouraged to participate in this group which sings at the 10:30am Sunday Family Mass once each month. Want to be a Catholic?

Do you know someone who wants to become Catholic? Please recommend persons to Deacon Laurato or Msgr. Barry. They will be invited to join our RCIA program. Give us a name, address or phone number and we will be in touch with them.

Already Catholic, but not confirmed nor received your First Communion? The RCIA program is for you as well. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is an easy-going, but structured process where people can learn what it means to be Catholic and living out that faith. Classes begin Saturday, September 10th at 10:00 AM in the St. Barnabas Elementary School Library. We will continue to meet on Saturday mornings in the Fall, Winter and Spring and culminate with the reception of the sacraments at the Easter Vigil.

For more information please see the brochure that will be available in the rack in the back of the Church. Since this is a process and not everyone is at the same place in their journey of faith, it is important that one make all the classes once one is enrolled in the program.

Months Mind Mass

Months Mind Mass was a nobel and honorable spiritual practice. Within a month of the funeral of a beloved deceased, another Mass was offered for the repose of the soul.

This practice occurred in the days when we had a great number of priests to handle requests. Today, this practice is almost impossible to maintian. Scheduled parish Masses cannot lend themselves on the short notice of a death in the family. A rare exception might be made when a family in Saint Barnabas cannot attend the funeral Mass for an immediate family member in a foreign country. Unfortunately due to a dire lack of priests this custom of a months mind has faded away.

Parish Block Festival – Saturday, September 24th

The date for our Annual Festival has been set. It is Saturday, September 24th. All volunteer workers are asked to make a note of it. This is a Black-Out date. All parish facilities and all parish resources are dedicated to this date. 241st Street will be closed all day. Jim & Kathy Neilis are the co-chairs of this event.
